The largest association for professional appraisers, the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) has welcomed members since 1979. All professionals must meet certain requirements to be eligible for ISA membership. Candidates must have at least three years of experience related to their market and chosen specialty. Beyond that, they must agree to uphold the ISA Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and complete both the ISA Core Course in Appraisal Studies and the National Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice course and exam.

Candidates who are eligible for ISA membership must send in an application along with four character references and a resume. Application fees consist of $475 in dues and a $150 processing fee, but the processing fee may be waived for applicants who are simultaneously applying for the ISA Membership and Core course. ISA members receive numerous benefits in the realm of marketing, networking, and education, ensuring that they stay up to date on changes within the appraising field.
